Platforms Project is Athens’ Independent Art Fair, open this year 20th – 25th May. Artist groups from all over the world are taking part, including SCI, a group which developed out of Liverpool Tate staff artists’ Soup Collective (SC). The ‘I’ in SCI stands for ‘including other artists’, which is how I got involved.
SCI’s theme for the fair is consumerism and branding and the exhibition, titled ‘CODED‘ includes work from 22 UK artists in addition to Soup Collective’s six members. In keeping with the theme, artists have used food packaging as a basis for their contributions (which also seems apt, given the group’s name!). Watercolour is a feisty medium – I refuse to say ‘difficult‘, though it’s often said to me by those either keen to learn or keen to avoid it. I also refuse to talk about ‘rules‘ because that implies a power imbalance between the artist and the paint. It may begin that way but, like learning the rumba, eventually the dance starts to look and feel more sensual and natural. Continue reading
I’m delighted to be joining more than 90 artists as part of this year’s Chester Arts Fair at Chester Racecourse on the weekend of 18-20 November.
It’s always a challenge to begin something new and I’ve just been an arts fair visitor so far, dropping in on other artists and weighing up the possibility of showing my own paintings, deciding whether I’m ready and if I’m prepared to take the risk in terms of energy and funds. Continue reading

Three of us are opening in New Brighton: Breda Whyte, Neal Dawson and myself, luckily all within a stone’s throw of each other in the Magazines area.
Not only are our studios open, but there is plenty to add to your visit: Vale Park, historic Magazines area, pub, vintage shops cafes etc, promenade and beach. That’ll give you a nice break before continuing your tour to other artists across Wirral – you can download a brochure with maps here: http://wirralart.com
